Community School

Our goal is to prepare a person for life. To be able to meet life head-on, one needs to be equipped with lifeskills.

Community School

We at Balmohan Vidyamandir conduct a diverse array of after school activities under the banner of Balmohan Community School. As per the school’s philosophy, the Balmohan Community School promotes extracurricular activities to ensure all round development of the children. The activities are shortlisted and undertaken, taking into consideration the general interests and hobbies of our children. All these are after school activities.

Our goal is to prepare a person for life. To be able to meet life head-on, one needs to be equipped with lifeskills. The school age is the most critical period for any kind of learning. Ideas that a child is exposed to, in these formative years, take deep roots and determine his/her personality. A fit body, a discerning intellect, a sound value-system, effective inter-personal skills, richness of emotions and a resilient spirit; these are the life skills that a child needs to develop, through education. These aspects need to be integrated through the various activities conducted in the school, thereby providing an opportunity for holistic growth.

Pottery

One of the first skills known to the Indians was Pottery, the art of handling clay. Pottery is one of those significant mediums through which humans have articulated their emotions. Pottery Art has been one of the most beautiful forms of expression for thousands of years. From time immemorial, lumps of clay were hand – moulded to form toys and deities of worship. The advent of the Potter’s wheel gave man the task of making beautifully shaped pots for his personal use.
We regularly bring the Potter’s Wheel to School for our students to get a hands on experience. Pottery Art nurtures inventiveness as it engages children in a process that aids in the development of self-esteem, self-discipline, co-operation, and self-motivation. There’s something special about the oneness of working with your hands. Working with clay on the wheel can help explore our creativity.

Calligraphy

India has been rich in cultural heritage. Indian art & music have own their specific ground in history. Calligraphy is one of the most important Indian Art. A cursory glance at the Stupas of Ashoka reveals that the art of calligraphy was quite developed in ancient India and continued to flourish in medieval India as well as can be seen in the miniature paintings of that period. In modern India too, the first copy of the Constitution of India, signed by the Members of the constituent Assembly had been specially calligraphed for the occasion.

The concept of calligraphy deals with injecting artistry in the idea of handwriting. It is an art which enables a person to write like an artist.

Warli Art

Warli painting of Maharashtra is one of the most intriguing forms of Indian folk paintings.

The Warli paintings made by the Warli Tribe of Maharashtra essentially depict the basic principles of life which are the main theme or basis of any tribe. Their major designs include the harvest season, celebration, wedding, rituals, and births. The Warli houses also see a pattern in decoration and designs. Painted in white on mud walls, they are pretty close to pre-historic cave paintings in execution. This was the only means of transmitting folklore to a populace not acquainted with the written word.

We believe in being better than the rest and bring every opportunity to our students to widen their horizons. Various Art Forms are inculcated in our students through regular Workshops.

Robotics

We at Balmohan Vidyamandir are consistently on the lookout for newer avenues to enhance the overall development of our students. We have been conducting regular Robotics workshops called Technovation. Robotics encourages students to think creatively, analyse situations and apply critical thinking and problem solving skills to real world problems. Teamwork and co-operation are cornerstones of any robotics project. Students will learn that it is acceptable to make mistakes, especially if it leads them to better solutions.

Abacus

Abacus helps develop various skills like – concentration, better & faster calculation skills, improves problem-solving abilities as well as listening skills, to name a few. We train our children in the Multi-Level Abacus programme from Preschool Senior to Std V. Abacus is an exercise of infinite possibilities for the mind.

Vedic Maths

Vedic Maths enhances the ability to approach and solve any mathematical problem with speed and accuracy, increases the child’s interest in the subject.

Centre for Language Learning

Balmohan conducts various programmes under the Centre for Language Learning. Proficiency in all languages is encouraged by the School and we also extend a few programmes for our Parents.

Spanish ~ Mandarin ~ German ~ French ~ Japanese

Age is no bar in order to learn a new language and, this is going to be the best opportunity to learn something new and interesting along with our children under one roof.

Language is an important skill that allows a person to promote a lifetime of effective communication. Learning a new language boosts brain power, develops the ability to multi-task, improves memory, and betters decision-making skills, amongst numerous other benefits. Language is intrinsic to the expression of culture. A foreign language opens up many doors of opportunities and experiences.

Balmohan conducts different programmes for our children along with their parents.

Trinity School London Graded Examinations (GESE)

Balmohan Vidyamandir conducts Trinity School London Graded Examinations (GESE) for a section of our students. Our Philosophy revolves around the child. We have been in the continuous process of providing enriching experiences to our students.

Dance

Dance is a powerful ally for developing many attributes of a growing child. The origin of Kathak is traditionally attributed to the traveling bards of ancient Northern India, known as Kathakars or storytellers.

Folk dances are simple dances, bursting with verve and vitality, performed to express joy and happiness on every possible occasion. Our Kathak & Folk Dance Sessions are open to Girls & Boys. Dance creates the magic of movement through which children develop enhanced sensory awareness.

One of our young Kathak dancers Shalmali Zankar, has been awarded a National Scholarship for training in the field of Kathak under the Cultural Talent Search Scholarship Scheme by the Centre for Cultural Resources and Training, under the aegis of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.

There are only 35 such scholarships awarded nationwide of which the quota allocated to Maharashtra is only seven, and of these seven, One of the scholarships rests with our student.

Funtime Computers

Technology influences every step of our children’s lives! We at Balmohan Vidyamandir wish to mould our young ones in a way that they can adapt to and take on the world of technology with amazing ease and confidence.

Hands on experiences are what we believe in, and so we regularly organise our Computer Workshop – Computer Funtime.

It is designed specially, keeping our young student’s interests and attention span in mind. In Computer Funtime our children learn and use the computers in a play way method.

Funzone

Funzone is a fun filled workshop for the children. The workshop has supervised activities for our little ones.

They don their Chef Caps, indulge in some Creative Activities, and learn new songs to help strengthen memory and social skills. Dance sessions and Aerobics sessions too are a part of the Funzone.

The Activities organised in Funzone improve our children’s physical health, communication and social skills, along with emphasis on self-expression, discipline, and confidence.

School Band

Playing a musical instrument brings joy to oneself and everyone around apart from stimulating the brain, enhancing memory and co-ordination among the senses.

A Band reinforces the skills of cooperation which are among the qualities now most highly valued in business and industry, especially in high-tech contexts.

Members are required to shift from an I/Me focus to a We/Us focus. Being a part of a Marching Band increases Neurological Multi-tasking as it involves meeting the challenge of marching at one tempo while playing at another.

The teamwork involved is very different from that of a sports team, where the goal is to defeat opponents. In a Marching Band, the focus is on individual and group self-improvement and comparing results with self over time.

Balmohan Vidyamandir set up the Balmohan Marching Band in 2014-15 and since then, it is a regular feature in School functions and various events and competitions, and has made us proud by winning many accolades for the School.

Film Making

Our students have made forays into territories which were earlier considered mature vocations. Script writing, Direction, Editing, Cinematography, Slicing Sound, as well as translating written text to the language of cinema were some of the skills that the children learnt.

Good Health

As part of our belief that good health is not an option but a must, swimming is introduced early, as early as Senior, and is greatly looked forward to by those who are involved. Friday lunch, too, ensures that healthy eating habits become a part of lunch and the palate is familiarized with a variety of food.

We have regular Eye check – up and Dental check – up done for every student of the school. As is the practice in our school, it was some of the parents who coordinated and implemented the entire exercise.

Orientation sessions are an integral part of our school, our programme, Growing Up, is aimed at looking at physical and psychological development in our youngsters in a logical and scientific manner. Parent Orientation sessions take place from time to time. Career counselling for the senior students is a much needed area which is looked into by our school too.

Something Unique

The kinds of communication medium have changed a lot over the years and on 15th of July 2014, we in India bid adieu to the telegram, which for many of us here, has been part of the growing up years.

Some of the last Telegrams sent in our Country and presumably in the world were from the students of Balmohan Vidyamandir to various dignitaries like the President of India, the Prime Minister of India, the Governor of Maharashtra, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Mayor of Mumbai. Every student also received a telegram. We hope they keep it as a cherished souvenir for life.

Hobbies have been found to have a therapeutic effect in reducing stress. They keep the mind and body in fighting shape and spirit. Mental exercise is as important as physical exercise. Activities, Sports, and Hobbies run alongside and supplementary to curricular pursuits and only a holistic experience of these myriad skills and games create a whole person.

We know the importance of learning self-reliance and cultivating a survival instinct. We will teach you to make your own tents, to light a bonfire, to take care of yourselves and your friends.

“One’s destination is never a place but a new way of seeing things”. It has been an endeavour of the school to provide its students with ample opportunities to get an experience of the outside world by organizing educational tours and excursions throughout the year.

We shall embark on wildlife safaris, rappelling down hills, trekking and trotting, knotting and spotting. We will cycle, we will knot ropes, we will go up peaks and learn climbing tropes. Astronomy sessions, telescopes and constellations, plant, and animal life, we will introduce you to them all. You will learn to be at home in the shrubs and trees. Tree Climbing will be a walk in the park, and the baboons, bugs, bats, and bees will be your allies. We teach you to befriend an oft unfriendly nature.
